These bands have roots in the traditional mizuhiki cord-making technique and are also used as handles for rice bags. Widely recognized for their safety, they have long been used in food packaging. Although made of paper, the material is strong enough to tow a car, yet soft and warm to the touch. It is produced using recycled pulp from milk carton offcuts, making it an ethical choice that is gentle on both people and the planet. Its innovative design allows it to be flattened for compact storage when not in use. With a timeless look and long-lasting durability, it is a sustainable tool for modern living.

Each Bandc Basket is carefully handmade at our workshop in Oshu, Iwate Prefecture. By bonding together environmentally friendly materials unique to Japan, we ensure durability and longevity. Our unique method, inspired by woodblock printing, uses precision molds to achieve consistent sizing. Multiple molds are used in the gluing process to create evenly spaced lattice patterns. These molds are made using laser cutters, incorporating modern manufacturing technology. The fusion of traditional technique and contemporary craftsmanship allows us to offer quality at a reasonable price. Easy to care for and built to last, this natural-material basket is a tool for everyday life.

Bandc Basket is designed to fold flat, making it ideal for international shipping and minimizing environmental impact. After many prototypes, we perfected a structure that combines aesthetics with eco-conscious functionality. Lightweight and compact, it fits easily into a suitcase. Within Japan, it ships rolled up like a scroll, ready to assemble by simply fastening the hooks. The tactile quality of the material offers a comforting presence that inspires creativity.

The use of washi paper string band used as a material for the handle of the bag for storing rice, which is indispensable in the Japanese lifestyle, is also interesting. The creation of the molds that made use of digital fabrication and the craftsmanship with a focus on the product quality are outstanding. The functional structure that allows it to be made flat when not in use is also creative.
